California EV Charger Rebates (2026)
California offers some of the most aggressive EV charging incentives in the country. Our local installers can help you claim them.
SCE (Southern California Edison)
SCE’s Charge Ready Home program offers rebates up to $1,500 for eligible electrical panel upgrades and wiring needed to support a Level 2 charger, plus potential hardware rebates.
PG&E (Pacific Gas and Electric)
PG&E offers the Empower EV program, providing up to $2,500 in incentives for income-qualified customers to upgrade their electrical panels and install Level 2 chargers.
LADWP (Los Angeles)
LADWP customers can receive a rebate of up to $1,000 for the purchase and installation of a qualifying Level 2 EV charging station, plus an additional $250 for a dedicated EV meter.
Federal Tax Credit
Don’t forget the federal Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit (Form 8911), which covers up to 30% of hardware and installation costs (up to $1,000) for eligible census tracts.
The California “Right to Charge” Law
If you live in a condo or an apartment in California, state law protects your right to install an EV charger.
Under California Civil Code Section 4745 (for HOAs) and Section 1947.6 (for renters), landlords and Homeowner Associations cannot unreasonably restrict a tenant or owner from installing an EV charging station in their designated parking space.
However, you are responsible for the cost of the installation, maintenance, and the electricity used. You must also use a licensed contractor and obtain $1,000,000 in liability insurance.
